I mean let us just take a moment and imagine the scene where you walk up to a friend and say, wow friend you look horrible and I hate the way your face looks when you wake up, do better babe.
No one would ever do that and yet we do it to ourselves almost everyday.
My approach to self-care lately has been humanising myself. I look at myself as a person who is trying her best and she just needs more positivity in her life.
Since the world is already beating you down, no one needs a negative inner voice that you can not escape.
When facing a difficult situation it is easy to become very negative and once the thoughts come rushing in, it is difficult to stop them.
In those moments a lot of growth can happen, where you stop the negative thoughts right in their tracks and not entertain them.
When the negative thoughts come, switch things up by pointing out something you like about yourself.
You need to always carve out time to check in on yourself, this is one thing that many of us tend not to do. It is important to focus on yourself and put the best version of yourself out there.
You should not be doing it for anyone, but yourself.
Have you ever wondered what your highest self looks like, how can you actively work towards becoming that person?
To feel like your best self requires work.
Everyday you wake up, eat, shower and continue with the rest of your day. Self-grooming is important, but the work should not just stop with your physical body, your mental health also requires a routine.
There are several ways to take care of your mental health: (These are methods that I have seen work for people around me and myself, please seek the help of a professional for further information).
- Talking to someone about things which are currently happening in your life. Talk to people who take the time to listen and who genuinely care about your well-being. Opening up can be hard, but it helps you to sort through things when you speak about them.
- Journaling your feelings.
- Seeking professional help, going to a psychologist.
-Being self-aware: When you are being negative towards yourself acknowledge the thoughts, push them away and replace them with a positive thought.
When your emotions are at an all time high, ask yourself why you feel that way.
Self-care is a journey that we have to embark on every single day. Hustle culture makes it seem that the lesser you sleep, the closer you are to achieving whatever goals you have set for yourself. No one can be a fully functioning human with little to no sleep. A lack of sleep just leads to you being easily irritated and having less memory retention. A good and consistent sleeping schedule is also a step in the right direction towards self-care.
The journey of self-care, is not always fun but it is definitely always worth it.
